Big Four Ice Caves!
June 30, 2010! Happy Birthday to Uncle Tyler! and it is the last day of June! The last day of June also marks the last day to use our year long hiking pass that we bought last June. So in honor of Tyler and to make sure we get our money's worth out of our hiking pass Brian took the day off work and we went hiking!!

What a great day we had! The girls started off at home modeling their new "Water Bottles!" that they get to carry when we hike! They are really excited about them and i am too!! It was a long drive out to Big Four. It was the farthest that we have now driven on the Mountain Loop Highway. When we finally got there we were ready for lunch. At the parking lot they have some really nice picnic tables and a great view of the Big Four Mountain! And there is the site of where the old resort used to be before it burnt down. The only thing left is the fireplace.

After lunch we started are hike to the Ice Caves! It is about a 2 mile round trip hike and mostly flat. So it is fairly easy. I figure this would be the easiest hike we would probably go on and that Tesila should be able to walk it herself. Tesila had different plans. That little girl is very stubborn. It is either her way or no way. I have a very hard time convincing her to do things. Dalia on the other hand is quite easy to convince. Dalia did great hiking!! She carried her water bottle the entire way and even her backpack. Dalia enjoyed collecting sticks, of course. Tesila walked for a bit and then sat down to pout. So daddy carried her on his shoulders. Later he put Tes down and i was walking with Tes and Brian was walking with Dalia. Shortly after we started walking Tes started to pout, but i wouldn't pick her up. So she just laid down on the trail and cried. I started to walk up the trail, Tes got up, but instead of walking toward me she started walking back down the trail with a big smile on her face. She is so sneaky! So of course i had to go back and get her. As soon as i got to her she sat down again. This went on for sometime until somehow i made her walk and when we got to daddy she of course asked to be carried and he of course carried her. That Daddy loves his Tes and he just can't say no to that sweet little face.

It was a very pretty hike, lots of cool plants and trees covered in moss. We got to the ice caves and walked up to the cave to feel the cool air! It was cold by the caves and the water was dripping down like it was raining. We played around the caves for a little bit and then it got too cold. The hike down was less eventful then the hike up. But we did take longer because the girls kept wanting to stop for breaks! We sure enjoy hiking as a family! Tes gets really excited about hiking! But she still thinks she needs to be carried everywhere.
We are sure glad that Brian decided to take the day off! We had a great day and can't wait to buy our new hiking pass to go on more hikes!
